My name is Marsha and this is my Story of Grace. I thought I knew God and Jesus. I accepted him at the age of 12 and I was baptized and attended church regularly. My great aunt Trudy made sure I made it to church every Sunday, although we didn’t have a car.
It was in 1995, I was going through a tough time and was kind of staying home from church. I had a fire happen. It destroyed everything I owned. God opened up windows from heaven and just poured out more blessings than I could receive. I actually had to give away stuff, I got so much. I didn’t have to buy not one thing.
In 1997, twin boys were born to my youngest daughter. Jonathan and Malcolm. Malcolm was born with a congenital heart defect. He was in intensive care and I don’t think I realized how sick he was. I went in and I said, “How’s he doing?” to the nurse and she said, “We almost lost him last night.”
God directed me to my church. I went, I didn’t know who I would find, but I ran into two prayer warriors. We went into a room and they prayed for my grandson and now he’s 17 years old and still going.
In 2008, I got word that my son, he was 33, was gone. He had died. He had taken his own life. This was devastating. Devastating. But, once again, God intervened with his people and set people in my life. I was told about a program that was offered through Door Creek Church called Griefshare. I came, I went through it three times, and finally, I got it.
Then, in 2010, I got news that I had this cancer. This landed me in the hospital for a month and a half but the people here at Door Creek were so wonderful. They visited me, they called to check on me, provided meals, it was just awesome.
I say all this because these might seem like lowlights, but these were God’s highlights, because he took them and He did a mighty work in me. He changed my heart. I believe that because of those events, I have a more compassionate heart for people. I can understand better, what they’re going through and I’ve had an opportunity to give back.
Because people walked with me through my difficulties, I now have an opportunity through Care Partners to walk with people that are going through some rough patches.
It is so important to stay connected. First of all to God, to His Word, to Jesus, to prayer and to God’s people. And that’s my Story of Grace.
