Check out this video from Doug Fast, Chair of the Stewardship Board, about Marc's upcoming retirement.

January 9, 2023

The Stewardship Board has been discussing the retirement of Pastor Marc with him for over a year. We recognize that God has directed him to step away from the daily responsibilities of leading DCC and whole-heartedly support Marc and Lori as they step into possible new ministry opportunities. As Ecclesiastes says: “For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.” (3:1).

The Board has an operational policy that outlines steps to take when a Lead Pastor candidate must be presented to the membership for approval. Here are some of the decisions that we have made to date:

  1. Pastor Marc will continue to function in his current role until April 30.
  2. Pastor Beverly Krizan will oversee the day-to-day operations of the staff and church effective May 1.
  3. Members of our Teaching Team (Pastors Mark Deering, Ryan Morrison and David Smith) will continue both their teaching and campus roles.
  4. Our ministries at all four campuses will continue to serve our Mission and Vision.
  5. A Search Team has been appointed by the Board, with Bob Andrew as Chair.
  6. The Board has retained a consulting firm, N.L. Moore & Associates, to work with our Search Team.
  7. The Board and Search Team will prayerfully consider all qualified candidates, both internal and external.
  8. The Search Team will recommend a candidate to the Board. If the Board approves that choice, the candidate will be presented to the membership for approval.
  9. N.L. Moore & Associates will conduct an all-church assessment using both online and printed input from DCC. Please plan to participate in that assessment before January 22.
  10. We expect the search for candidates to begin in March.
  11. Board members have committed to fasting and praying each week, seeking God’s direction as we move through this process.

We ask you to be active in prayer in the following ways:
  • for wisdom and discernment for the Search Team.
  • that the Board will seek God frequently and expectantly in the search process.
  • God’s clear direction in all stages of the selection of the next Lead Pastor.
  • for unity and continued love among those who attend DCC.
  • that God will restrain Satan’s attempts to incite division, disunity and anger in DCC.
  • for the continued spread of the Gospel through our various ministries, campuses, local, national & global partners and through us as individuals during this time.

The Board will share information with you as the process progresses. Information and updates will be posted on this page.

Thank you for your continued prayer for Marc and Lori, the staff, volunteers and all the teams and groups active in the search. We are trusting God for His will in the selection of a new Lead Pastor to further our Mission and Vision.

ASSESSMENT REPORT

Executive Summary of the Congregational Assessment Report

NL Moore & Associates and HC!C recently administered the Congregational Assessment Tool in our church. Forty three percent of our average adult attendance took the assessment, therefore, Door Creek Church met the threshold for statistically valid and reliable results at 99% +/-4. Well done! A complete readout of the Vital Signs Report was delivered to our church leadership. An Executive Summary of those results is offered below.

ASSESSMENT REPORT

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why is Pastor Marc stepping down, and what is the timeframe?

After 42 years in ministry and almost 17 at DCC, Pastor Marc is retiring, effective April 30, 2023. Marc and his wife Lori have been praying about this matter for three years. Marc has been in dialogue with the Stewardship Board the past year and a half and believes this is the right time.

What are Pastor Marc & Lori’s future plans?

Marc and Lori are looking forward to a time of renewal as they discern what it looks like to serve God in this next chapter of their lives. The Board will award Marc the honorary title of Pastor Emeritus in gratitude and respect for his service here. The Board believes that God will continue to use Marc to further His mission in retirement.

What's the process for finding our next Lead Pastor?

  1. The Board has been working on this transition for over a year, reading books, praying and talking to external church leaders and consultants.
  2. A Search Team has been appointed by the Stewardship Board and is made up of current Board members and members at large: Bob Andrew, Jen Wojtysiak, Mary Schey, Mike Anderson, Wade Goodsell, Deb Sellen and Scott Stearns.
  3. A search firm has been identified. After much prayer and discernment, the Board has selected an experienced consulting group, N.L. Moore & Associates, that specializes in helping churches like ours work through this important season with confidence and unity.
  4. The Stewardship Board will bring a single candidate to the membership for vote to extend the call as Lead Pastor.
  5. Membership Vote: Our constitution requires that our members vote to call the next Lead Pastor. The Stewardship Board will communicate the voting process before a final candidate is proposed to the congregation.

How long will the process take and are there any internal candidates?

The search process may take anywhere from eight months to over a year. The Board and Search Team will prayerfully consider all qualified candidates, both internal and external.

Who do I give suggestions to?

Who will be leading the church?

The plan going forward has the Board working with Pastor Bev Krizan, the Chief of Staff. Bev will oversee the day-to-day operations, working closely with the Lead Team and our ministry staff. Our teaching team (Pastors Deering, Morrison and Smith) will continue to teach with some invited guest speakers also.

How will this affect ministry at our campuses (Sprecher Road, DeForest, Northside Madison & Online)?

We do not anticipate any changes to the ministry offerings at our campuses. We will continue to serve all campuses with staffing and ministries to help people follow Jesus and grow in Christ.

How will the Board communicate updates?

Regular updates will be made via email and our social media and vlog avenues. All updates will be posted here on this Transition page. Printed updates will be available at the Madison area campuses and will be mailed to voting members without online access.

What can we do?

  1. Thank God for Marc and Lori’s ministry and pray for them and our church during this transition.
  2. Pray for:
    • Wisdom for our Search Team and Board
    • Our new Lead Pastor during this search process and going forward
    • Unity and endurance within our staff and church family
    • God’s favor to help us thrive during this time of transition
    • Our ability to love one another well and share God’s love with others
